Meet the Family
The Ngewanas are a fun-loving, stylish, clever, successful and open-minded South African family. They want to do what they can for the well-being of our planet, and save money at the same time. By taking on this My Green Home challenge, they committed to create a greener home and lifestyle and they’re encouraging others to join them. This is their story.

Zwelethu – the Father
Zweli is a Mechanical Engineer by training, and he’s currently a Senior Lecturer at a University of Technology.

Bulelwa – the Mother
Bulelwa is a planner by profession, and she’s now the CEO of a public-private organisation. She is very active on social media and has a bi-weekly column in a weekly newspaper.

Lisa is 22 years old. She’s an interior design student.

Lutho is a high school student, aged 17.

Unam – the Niece
Unam is the Ngewanas’ 14-year-old niece. She is a high school student who is a weekly boarder. She spends most weekends with the Ngewanas, but goes back to her home town for holidays.

Vanessa – the Domestic Helper
Vanessa works for the Ngewana family full time from Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings. She helps with the cleaning, washing, ironing and cooking.

The Ngewana house
The Ngewanas have lived in their double storey house for 11 years. It has five bedrooms, three lounges, a dining room, a kitchen and two bathrooms. There is a swimming pool and some ‘outbuildings’ (laundry, storeroom and flat with a bathroom), as well as a double garage. The erf size is about 880m².
